Regency Hair Restoration FAQs

Have a hair replacement and restoration-related question? We have the answer. Check out these FAQs and give us a call today for more information!

  • What is it?

Hair restoration, also known as a hair transplant, is a very precise procedure that over the years has become less and less invasive. When artistically done by an experienced team, it looks completely natural and is virtually impossible to detect.

Hair restoration has become a very easy, safe surgical procedure that works on both men and women who are experiencing thinning hair or complete hair loss or baldness.

    • There are two techniques that are used today that move hair “from the backyard to the front yard” – or from the back of the head to the front and top of the head.
    • FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is the newest technology and provides a spectacular result because the follicles are extracted one hair or follicle at a time. This technique is extremely non-invasive and the post op is quite quick and comfortable for the patient.
    • FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant), also known as the strip method, was the classic technique that most patients chose to use in the 1990’s and up to about 2014. Today it is only used on special cases for specific reasons.
  • What is it for?

Hair restoration today is a wonderful procedure for anyone from 18 to 80, and it provides phenomenal results for men as well as women.  If your hair loss is on your mind, it is usually because it is not on your head.

  • Who can benefit?

    • Men who have thinning hair and do not want to be bald
    • Men who are bald and do not want to go through life looking older than they are.
    • Woman who are suffering from Female Pattern Hair Loss and are distraught about how they look and feel about themselves.
    • We also provide facial hair, like mustaches and beards, and for women we do eyebrows.
  • What makes for a perfect hair restoration procedure?

    • You want to work with a physician and team that offers FUE technology, so that the right techniques are used to fit your level of hair loss and your budget.
    • You want to work with a group that evaluates your family history of hair loss from both sides of your family and does not just look at your hair loss today but also where it is going. We like to call this “Planning a Head.”
    • You want to make sure the group you are working with has years of experience in sculpturing hairlines, which is the most important part of the procedure.
    • You need to have proper expectations compared to the amount of donor hair you have to work with, so the appearance you end up with is equal to what you want.
    • You must realize that you might need multiple procedures to ultimately complete your look and expectations.
  • How long does the procedure take?

At Regency Hair Restoration, the FUE procedure typically takes about 6 hours, depending on the number of grafts.

  • What type of anesthesia is required?

The hair restoration uses a local anesthesia call Lidocaine. This is similar to what a dentist uses, which is Novocain.  You are awake during the entire procedure unless you decide to nap, and we normally have lunch together since it is a long day. Most patients watch movies while waiting for the procedure to be completed.

  • What disqualifies someone from having hair restoration?

Those who do not have enough donor area to get hair from and those with limited donor hair who have expectations that cannot be realized. Today, we at Regency have mastered the technique, so for those with limited donor hair, we can use neck hair or chest and/or back hair.

  • How long do results from a hair restoration last?

Results are amazing, and usually in men they will last for the rest of your life.  This is the same for women, although occasionally woman may thin in their mid- to late-70s.

  • Will I lose more hair?

This depends on how much hair you have when we do the procedure, as well as your genetic make-up and how much hair you are destined to lose. If you have a lot of hair, you will probably lose more, but if you are almost or completely bald, then you don’t really have more to lose.

  • What do I need to do after my procedure?

Rest and avoid exertion for three or four days. Sleep in a recliner or with some pillows propped up under your head for at least three days after your surgery.  You will receive post-op medication that should be used for proper healing and faster growth.

  • When can I resume my normal activities?

About a week after, although most people feel good enough to go to dinner or work in about one or two days.

  • What are some of the risks associated with hair restoration?

Temporary minor swelling and mild discomfort are the most common, but always very limited. Temporary loss of sensation in some area resolves within a few weeks if it occurs, and you may experience some itching during recovery.

  • How much does a hair restoration procedure cost?

Fees depend on the extent of your particular procedure, but a typical hair restoration cost ranges from $4,500 to $12,000, depending on the amount of hair you need and choose to have moved.
