So, Tonight’s News is Brought to You by Me!
About 18 months ago I get a phone call from a frantic gentleman who must have an appointment within the next 24 hours. I take his name and number and we decide that the next day at 10 AM would be perfect. The next day comes and my nurse says that Mr. Smith is here for his 10 O’clock. We put him in consultation room 1 and then I’m on my way. As I walk in the room I am extremely surprised because the gentleman waiting for me is the same man who was in my living room at 10:00 the night before, the anchor from my favorite News show.
His fear is growing as his hair is going…
We establish that I know who he is and that we really need to use his real name and information for his medical records. I try to put him at ease, that his privacy will be totally protected, and that we have done news people, athletes and even movie stars, but no one ever knows except for the patients that they have sent us. Finally he began to trust me and put his belief in our ability. Whether you are a super star or an auto mechanic we have a law called HIPPA which prevents us for using any photography or telling anyone who our patients are and what they have done with us. Even before we had this law, we ethically have a responsibility to our patients to protect their privacy and we have always honored it.
Once we have your trust, then we can begin to do our job…
Now that we had the ability to communicate, I was able to discuss his needs and expectations of what we could do in one procedure that would be totally undetectable, and what we would do that might be noticeable to his HD cameras for a few days. Obviously, he did not want to be on the air when anything was noticeable so he opted to take a week off with 2 weekends in between. I assured him that if anything was noticeable, that he wears make-up on the air and he could easily use make-up to cover anything that might be showing. I knew that because of his pre-existing hair and his skin color he would be at least 90% healed to the eye if not 100% in ten days. So now, finally, we were totally able spend time mapping out his procedure so he could have a great result, never be bald and continue as the handsome young looking newsman that moved him up the ranks to be the Anchor Man on the news.
That was then and this is now
Well, his procedure was a complete success, and much of the paranoia the patient had, ended up being unnecessary. He now has a full head of hair to show the world every night at 10, and the best news is that he just scheduled his second procedure because as is the case with many of our patients, some of his existing hair has started to fall out and thin a little. But as predicted we are definitely ahead of the game, so no one will ever see it or ever no. And just for the record when he called for his 2nd procedure he was very happy to use his real name and identity, so no more mystery man coming in, just one happy Anchor Man.
